On May 30th-31st, 2022, OLEAF4VALUE attended the 2022 BCE Conference which took place in person in the city of Ghent, Belgium. Along with over 20 other projects and organisations, OLEAF4VALUE presented the project’s work plan, introduced the project’s goals and objectives and disseminated several results that have been found (the project is currently on month 12 out of 36 in total).

The session started with a warm welcome and opening talk by Prof. Erik Meers from Ghent University. Later, the project F-CUBED took the wheel as the first project to be presented in the BCE Conference! The entire conference was separated in two big sessions on Monday the 30th and four sessions on Tuesday the 31st:

Monday, May 30th 2022

  • Value chain assessment of waste-to-bioenergy and bioproducts solutions

  • Turning agricultural waste into biomaterials

Tuesday, May 31st 2022

  • Turning agricultural waste into biochemicals (continued)
  • Sustainable agriculture in Europe through nutrient recovery and recycling

  • Biogas Biorefineries: Towards more resilient EU-wide energy systems for the future

  • Resource-oriented solutions for water recovery and reuse

The Conference also allowed attendees to meet and greet new people who are involved in the bioeconomy sector. There were a couple of networking sessions where people would grab a drink and start connecting with fellow attendees.

In other words, The Conference aimed at highlighting the current research innovations in the six main Biorefine’s domains related to the sustainable resource management in the framework of circular economy systems. Nutrient recycling and recovery, renewable energy, water recovery and use, biomaterials & eco-design, biochemicals and value chain assessment were at the core of the discussion, focused on recent developments and concrete solutions to make the transition to circular economy work in practice.

Attendees were able to participate in a poster session to complement the conference providing insights on the most relevant initiatives promoting innovative solutions for a greener economy in Europe!
